Canadian Girls Group created to Advise Government

Canadian Minister and Student Member of the Girls Advisory Council

The Canadian Minister of the Status of Women has announced the creation of a girls advisory council which will advise the government with regards to young women’s affairs and priorities in Canada. The girls advisory council is currently composed of four girls and is expected to include more people when the senior member Helen Zhou and the Minister recruit more girls to come aboard.

Along with the creation of a girls advisory council, the Minister, Dr K.Kellie Leitch also launched a $750,000 fund in Toronto to support girl projects around the country. The announcements coincided with International Women’s Day, a holiday that is celebrated in most European countries as well as other parts of the world including China, Vietnam, Russia and Africa.

Any girl from 15 up to 24 years is free to participate in the advisory council but the only way to be chosen is to take part in a contest, which will run until the 15th of April.

The program dubbed “Strong Girls, Strong World” will target young girls at grassroots level in a bid to equip them with leadership skills. About 10 locations have been selected to benefit from this government initiative which will run for two years.

As Dr Kellie Leitch says, girls can be successful in their adult life and endeavors when they get a good start early on.
