Three Dutch girls, aged 15 to 16 years left their hometown
in Netherlands and headed for Turkey in an attempt to flee to Syria, where many
young girls are going, hoping to become brides to Jihadists and ISIS fighters.
Two of the girls were caught at the border and sent back to Netherlands but one
is missing and her whereabouts are not known.
Investigations have revealed nothing to suggest that the
girls may have an intention to fight in Syria or support the ISIS fighters. The
girls left their hometowns, Zeist and Driebergen in Netherlands on a Friday
without informing anyone but they were soon reported missing, prompting the
Dutch Embassy in Turkey to look for the girls and intercept them.
The girls have been handed over to the Children’s Social
Services which has been involved with the girls in the past when they took
issue with not being allowed to wear the burka at high school. A burka is a
long robe or veil covering the face, and it is worn by women of Muslin faith.
Young people from Netherlands have expressed a wish to
travel to Syria in the past, and about 10 of them had their passport
applications denied due to fear that they might be ISIS sympathizers and
supporters. One Dutch teenager who made it to Syria became a casualty of the
war after joining ISIS. Forty nine Dutch citizens who are suspected of being
Jihadists have had their passports seized by the government.
